Robert Marten, Visiting Fellow

Robert MartenRobert Marten, who is spending six months in Tokyo through the Hitachi/Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) International Affairs fellowship program, has been appointed as a visiting fellow at the Japan Center for International Exchange.

Robert Marten was previously a senior program officer at the Rockefeller Foundation, where he worked on the foundation’s Transforming Health Systems for Universal Health Coverage initiative, managing research and advocacy efforts for UHC at the global level. Following his time at Rockefeller, he worked as the WHO Sierra Leone’s Country Office Health Systems Strengthening Coordinator and worked with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and other partners post-Ebola.

While assisting JCIE’s work program on Global Health and Human Security and other relevant global health agendas, Mr. Marten will be conducting in-depth qualitative research on the strategic implementation of Japan's global health policy, which he intends to analyze and share in the form of lessons for other countries.
